Hi Alex,
I haven't done much work with the FileSystemDatagrid, but I just spent some time reviewing its source. Unfortunately, it the performance issues there appear to be more deeply buried.

I haven't attempted any changes, but it looks like you may need to extend and modify 2 classes to effectively remove the sorting. That assumes that the sorting logic is what actually slows down the directory listing, like it does in the FileSystemTree.

My best guess is that the slowness is the result of sorting in mx.utils.DirectoryEnumeration. When setting the source property to an Array, a new ArrayCollection is created, filtered and sorted.

You could override this behavior to possibly speed up the listing. I spent about an hour this evening trying to make a proof of concept, but had no luck.

Hi!

I am experincing the problems you describe but in my case it is related to the FilesystemDatagrid component.

i use it to explore and open image files inside a network disk and when there are a lot of files in a folder it takes to long.

Do you know by change how to tweak the FileSystemDataGrid class in order to make it faster??

Any help or hint would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Thank You!

I've been experimenting with the new Flar manager by transmote and it wasn't compiling because of this error.
Your solution worked like a charm, thanks!

@Quentin
I'll have to experiment with reading browser SharedObjects, I see no reason why it wouldn't work.

Are you storing any complex objects in the SO? Meaning anything other than Flash Player native obects (Number, Boolean, Array, etc).

If so, you need to register the class alias for each object you wish to retrieve from the SO.
